While the Spanish carmaker is pushing for growth from other product lines, there will be little let-up for the mid-life refreshed Ibiza, which launched on April 14.Aggressive finance offers such as a £199 deposit, £199 monthly payment plan for the entry 1.2E will help to ensure the car maintains sales momentum. There has also been no increase in OTR price, to ensure customers coming out of the original model can continue on similar monthly payments with the facelifted car.The changes to Ibiza are purely cosmetic, with no alteration to the engines or chassis. That's not a terrible thing, as the current Ibiza is a very good drive, with composed handling and decent powertrains. Petrol-powered derivatives make up for three in four Ibiza sales in the UK, and it's easy to see why. The 1.2-litre TSI is an excellent, responsive unit and while it can't match the outright pace of the second unit offered, a 1.4-litre, it is the powertrain of choice. The 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre turbodiesels naturally beat both petrols for fuel economy and emissions, however the £1,800 extra Seat demands for the equivalent spec diesel should make them unattractive for most private buyers, who account for two thirds of Ibiza customers.Physical changes include reshaped bonnet, bumpers, headlamps and front grille, while interior changes include a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, refreshed controls and a much larger glovebox. Bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights are a particularly striking optional extra.Trim levels in the UK are E, S, SE and FR, with the outgoing Sport trim deleted. The E is the only one without air-con. For the first time the sporty FR specification will be offered on the estate ST as well as the three-door and five-door hatch backs.
