SPRING-SUMMER 2011 Isea&iI 9newsandviewsAfleet of 40 yachts gathered in the Caribbean between the24 and 27 March for the 16th edition of the St Barths Bucket- the much-loved annual regatta for large sailing yachts. Thisregatta is one of a kind, gathering sailing superyacht owners andtheir yachts in St Barths' Gustavia Harbor for a week of fun andracing. As the sleepy French island came to life, the quay, which isusually filled with motoryachts, was a sea of sailing vessels. As asponsor of the event, CNI's brokers and clients were there to cheeron the 54m (178') Parsifal III, the 45.3m (148'6) Helios, the 35m (115')Sojana and the 30m (100') Virago, which were all racing. CNI is delighted to announce that the overall winner, after threedays of racing, was the 30m (100') Virago, chartered by CNI clientsspecifically for the St Barths Bucket. Held from the 24- 27 March, the globally renowned show isa leading event on the yachting calendar.Life's Finest II was a welcome addition toPalm Beach's impressive exhibition ofpremier yachts. Built in 1995 by theNorthcoast Yachts yard, she is one of themost impressive five-stateroom tri-decks onthe market and has an asking price ofUS$6,600,000.CNI & St Barths Yacht ClubThe third annual CNI Mini-Bucket took placethe same weekend as the St Barths Bucket(24 - 27 March). Amid the much largerBucket fleet, the 11 two-man teams tackedand reached with the wind, sometimesover-reaching just a little too much to spillinto the sea.The winners of the inter-island CNI Mini-Bucket were from one of the St Maartenteams: Rhone Findlay, age 14, is experiencedwith Optimists, Lasers and 420s, but this washis first time on Vanguards; and Bart Van Vliet,age 12. A second team from St Maartencame second and the St Barths team of KevinGreaux and Julien Aubin came third.Great fun was had by all and CNI looksforward to hosting the event again next year.Photography: Howard Wietz |
