Describe your ideal holidayIt would be somewhere I feel totally free, such as at sea. Whenever I am on ayacht I get a sense of complete unbridled freedom that I have yet to experience onany other type of holiday.Where is your favourite place to escape to?My house in Saint Moritz. I head there with my family during the winter. It's afantastic bolthole where I can completely unwind. What do you usually do for your summer holiday?I gather together my family and we sail on our yacht, exploring thebeautiful Mediterranean coastlines of countries such as Turkey, Greece,Sardinia and Corsica. What do you look for in a holiday destination?I love small islands and quiet resorts - peaceful places where I can enjoysilenceand the simple pleasures of life, such as swimming in crystal-clear waters.Where would you most recommend the discerning traveller to visit?I love anywhere tranquil and close to the sea. The Italian idylls of Portofino,Ponza, Palmarola, Capri, Amalfi and Positano fit my requirements perfectly. What essential items do you take with you when you travel? The Loro Piana 'no-carry' trolley has revolutionised my travels. It's made ofNorwegian Fjord leather so it looks elegant and retains a refined Loro Pianastyle, while also being practical. It's very neat, has numerous usefulcompartmentsand is cabin-sized, so there's no unnecessary waiting whenyou touch down at your destination. What other products would you recommend to travellers? Many of our products have been treated with our unique Windmate and StormSystem technologies, which make the materials resistant to water and windyet still enable the skin to breathe. Therefore they're perfect for those who areexposed to the elements on their travels.Do you relax on holiday or try to jam in as much as possible?I prefer to relax, which is why I love sailing. All my concerns about work andeveryday pressures simply disappear when I set sail.n112I sea&iI AUTUMN 2011thelastwordbeforeyou go Pier Luigi Loro Piana, chiefexecutive of luxury Italianclothing company Loro Piana, outlines his travel essentials
