34www. c- mw. net Conference+ Meetings WorldMarch 2010 PHOTO RANGE PetroCongress opens As plans for a major new multi- million dollar convention centre outside St Petersburg are being driven by the ExpoForum company, the governor of St Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, and president Medvedev's personal representative in Russia's North- West, Ilya Klebanov, were two of the VIP guests attending the gala opening of the city's new PetroCongress conference and business centre. The new building is the brainchild of leading Russian organiser Restec. The Northern Art Nouveau building designed by chief architect Igor Shaposhnikov now has pride of place at the Restec St Petersburg HQ. PetroCongress offers a multifunctional congress hall with capacity for 300 delegates, as well as 15 meeting rooms and a VIP zone. There is a total of 1,800sqm of conference and meetings space and a similar amount of office space. Some of Restec's international partners also attended the opening and, although the organiser has many energy sector conferences, the ' PetroCongress' name has its roots in the name of Peter's city - St Petersburg.
