April 2012ACADEMIC VENUESork University, Conference Aston and the Møller Centre in Cambridge have all been in the news lately.A topping out ceremony recently marked the fi nal phase in construction of the £9m York Sport Village on the University of York's campus. Work is due for completion July 2012. The University's Vice-Chancellor Professor, Brian Cantor, and McAlpine Works Manager, Jimmy Walker, toasted the occasion with a noggin of ale.Marketing and Sales Manager at York Conferences, Sian Fraser, says: "York Sport Village will be a superb sporting asset for our students and the city. We hope it will attract events to use the modern sporting facilities that previously were not available."Conference Aston offers two purpose built conference, hotel and event venues in Birmingham city centre with 30 meeting rooms accommodating up to 235 delegates. De Vere Venues' CEO Tony Dangerfi eld told CN his company was launching its fi rst meetings and training venue franchise at Conference Aston. On 1 April it will be renamed De Vere Venue Aston Conferences Birmingham. Dangerfi eld says: "We will throw all our sales and marketing power at it and when we take over and the food and service our clients are used to at a De Vere property will be added." The Møller Centre at Churchill College, is the only dedicated, residential executive training and conference centre in Cambridge and recently achieved gold standard in The International Association of Conference Centre's (IACC) Code of Sustainability.Christine Hartshorne, Marketing Manager, says: "We are pleased that we can work with clients to offer a greener more effi cient service."
