Organiser outlines ambitious plans for London Wild Bird WatchThe man behind the new London Wild Bird Watch Live show has claimed the birdwatching phenomenon is one of many longstanding trends missed by organisers in the pursuit of new ideas. London Wild Bird Watch Live is a launch event backed by Upper Street Events aimed at the bird and wildlife watching market. The event will be held at the London Wetland Centre in Barnes and feature three purpose-built exhibition halls, a 450-seat theatre and a 110m double-decker glass structure allowing visitors to test out products while obtaining a view across the Wetland Centre's main lake. "This is a show opportunity that has been missed around a trend that's been established for many years and has proved its longevity," event director Chris James claimed. "Everyone in our industry is looking for the next trend to source new show ideas but many of these shows end up being too early or just tap into fads." He pointed out the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, a core visitor base for the new show, was 125 years old and had 1m members. James praised staff at the London Wetland Centre and their willingness to embrace new ideas to suit the needs of the exhibition. "The Wetland centre is in the heart of London and offers us a combination of lots of parking and public transport services, room for a shopping village, 105 acres of outdoor content and a Site of Special Scientific Interest," he said. The show was initially scheduled to run from 24 to 26 February 2012 but has been shifted to 20-22 April to tap into the key Spring wildlife viewing period. According to James, 1,600sqm of exhibition space has already been sold. - Photo supplied by Tom HinesWTM welcomes DLR capacity liftnEWS10 www.exhibitionnews.co.ukThe World Travel Market team has welcomed Transport for London's (TfL) plans to improve services on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) during the exhibition. The transport authority will increase the capacity of DLR trains from two to three carriages while running services every two minutes and 30 seconds during peak periods. West Ham is open as a DLR station for the first time, providing an interchange with the District, Hammersmith and City and Jubilee lines. The opening of the Stratford International link for the London 2012 Olympics will also increase frequency through Canning Town to Custom House. According to World Travel Market (WTM) organiser Reed Exhibitions, improving the interchange further between London Underground and the DLR could boost this year's attendance by 33 per cent. The event was due to take place at the Yorkshire Event Centre. According to organiser The Dales Party Company, the show will be rescheduled to 2012 and switch venues. "Unfortunately the event did not receive the level of exhibitors necessary and we hope by rescheduling we can achieve what we set out to," director Caroline Parker said. The company now plans to move to an outdoor space and increase its entertainment elements. A May 2012 date is being considered. BritYrex switches manchester venuesExhibition organiser ECI International will relocate its Brityrex International 2012 tyre trade and equipment exhibition to EventCity by Manchester's Trafford Park. ECI International MD Paul Farrant said EventCity's free parking and Wi-Fi services, transport links and proximity to the Trafford Park retail district were key reasons for the change. The move also provides scope to expand the event. Brityrex was held in 2007 and then 2010 at Manchester Central after switching from Harrogate. The biennial exhibition was scheduled to run in 2009 but postponed due to the recession. The first EventCity event is booked in October 2012.dance show live gets dates extensionHaymarket Exhibitions is extending the length of its second annual Dance Show Live from three to six days. The event was launched last year and runs alongside Haymarket's Clothes Show Live at The nEC in Birmingham from 2 to 7 December. Features include central dance and freestyle stages, workshops and masterclasses and West End bootcamps. Show director Craig Hanratty told EN the extension would give exhibitors a broader audience reach and allow them to tap into Clothes Show Live's 50,000 student visitors, which attend over the first three days. Another factor was the need to spread the Dance Show's expanded classes programme across more days, he said. changes include a new platform at Canning Town Station and new escalators at Custom House Station, improving entry and exit from Excel London. TfL will also continue with its Travel Hub at Canning Town Station, introduced for WTM 2009 to troubleshoot issues. "The increase in capacity on the DLR is great news for all WTM participants," exhibition director Simon Press said. The organiser also claimed the show's expanded Technology and Online Travel area is 90 per cent sold three months out. The section has been extended by 30 per cent this year and will feature a number of new exhibitors within a dedicated pavilion, Reed said. A second pavilion is being introduced to showcase mobile technology providers and hospitality technology representation has strengthened. WTM takes place at Excel London from 7 to 10 november.
