Some big news to beginthe year with, not least thedeparture of Fish from theexhibitions arena, a move itattributes to funding beingwithdrawn by risk-averseventure capitalists. It's an undoubted setbackfor the industry.Measurement is key to thesuccess of the exhibitionmedium and stands are soldor lost on an organiser'sability to provide accuratedata for exhibitors. RFIDtechnology offers a potentialmeans of winning over thoseexhibitors, offering data thatgives financial controllers theconfidence to sign off ontheir company's attendanceat our shows. However, while Fish canprovide this data, thetechnology was neverembraced by organisersand the cost of getting itinstalled in venues provedprohibitive. Time will tell ifAlliance Tech, which boughtFish's exhibition andconference business in theUS, is able to win theindustry over in the States.Elsewhere we've seenReed continue to deny itsexhibitions arm is up forsale, ITE expand in Russia, and UBM triumph over aChinese rival that sought tocompete using less-than-clean methods of winningUBM business. Let's hope this year startsoff as busily as the last oneended.Antony Reeve-CrookEditorarc@mashmedia.netwww.exhibition-world.netTwitter: ExhibitionWorldMANAGING EDITORNadia Cameronncameron@mashmedia.netEDITORAntony Reeve-Crookarc@mashmedia.netADVERTISING MANAGERAndrew Frenchafrench@mashmedia.netpublisher: Mark Brewster production:Luke Spalding, JustynaKochanska, Philippa Somerset| January 2011|News from around the exhibition world THE PLACE TO MEET IN SCANDINAVIAStockholm International Fairs is the leading organizer of fairs and meetings in the Baltic Sea Region.
