GALLERYwww.exhibition-world.net Issue 8 | 201191BARCELONA, SPAIN, 29-30 SEPTEMBER 2011Alimentaria grows the exportability of Spain's agri-food industryAlimentaria Exhibitions, a joint venture between Alimentaria management and Reed Exhibitions, invited journalists from around the world to Barcelona for the Alimentaria International Press Conference, an event it used to explain the signifi cance of the biannual food and beverage event.The Spanish food industry is hugely important to the country's economy. According to the latest Survey of the Working Population it accounts for 15% of GDP and employs 446,000 people. Year-on-year growth rate for employment in the sector stands - at 0.52% - in stark contrast to the 1.57% decrease in employment experienced elsewhere in manufacturing and 0.94% drop across all industries. Alimentaria 2012, held at Fira de Barcelona on 26-29 March, will feature two new exhibition halls, totalling close to 95,000sqm of offerings on business, promotion, gastronomy and agri-food R&D. It also sees the unveiling of a new strategic business forum, The Alimentaria Hub.
