Qualcomm is collaborating with the UK Government, as well as the Mayor of London's office and Transport for London (TfL) to deliver the trial. The pre-commercial trial is expected to start in early 2012 and will involve as many as 50 electric vehicles (EVs). The trial will use Qualcomm wireless inductive power transfer technology that enables high-efficiency power transfer across a large air gap. Under the terms of the transaction, May Gurney has paid £34.9 million cash for the equity and loan notes of the busi-ness. Illustrating the possible consequences of this continuing rise in fuel prices on UK motorists, research from British Car Auctions reveals that motorists are already planning to keep their cars for longer and drive less. Its latest Used Car Market Report included a survey of 4,000 motorists. This revealed that half of respondents felt that, at some point in time, the rising cost of fuel will force them to change to a more fuel-efficient car or alter their driving habits. Around a fifth reached that point when fuel hit £1.30 per litre and by the time the price of fuel reaches the £1.50 per litre mark a further 15% of car owners will be in a similar position.Read more...Time for an 80mph motorway speed limit, says the IAMThe IAM is calling for the Government to pilot an 80mph speed limit on a controlled and managed motorway to assess its practicality and safety, and road users' reac-tion to it. In September the Government announced that the motorway speed limit could be raised to 80mph. However, road safety groups have raised a concern that legalising today's tolerated, yet unofficial, 80mph speed limit would simply create an unofficial 90mph limit.
