""WORLD IN PERSPECTIVE087BOTH CHINAAND THE EU ARE RESOLVED TO ACT AS RESPONSIBLEGLOBAL ENERGYPLAYERS SO AS TOENSURE ENERGYSECURITY ANDSUSTAINABILITYRepresentative Catherine Ashton, to be present in the Shanghai Expo opening ceremony. It will provide a window for both sides; for China to be better knownand respected. It is also an occasion to celebrate our relationship. And when I look back, and now I can speak with someperspective, because I have been at six EU-Chinasummits during the last six years, working very closelywith Prime Minister Wen: we always had this kind of verydeep cooperation. I saw progress in the EU-Chinarelationship, not only addressing political dialogue, butalso progress in very concrete programmes, programmesdeveloped here in China, and development also in ourdialogue regarding global issues. nThis is an edited version of President Barroso's pressstatement following the executive-to-executivemeeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijingon 29 April 2010. For more information visit:www.ec.europa.euto-people contacts and culture, and there will be anEU-China Forum during the next EU-China Summit inBrussels later this year. So I'm giving you a very wide appreciation of the vastfields in which we have intended to further ourcooperation. There are no taboos in our discussionsand in fact we address matters of concern. I welcomethe fact that we are deepening our dialogue on humanrights and during this meeting, too, we haveexchanged our opinions based on the regular dialoguewe have on human rights. We believe that it isessential to respect human rights and this is a key partof our dialogue.I think it is important to translate this relationship interms of better understanding, trust and respect. Forthis, openness is essential; to have this kind ofinformation, to have access to information, so that ourpeoples can know each other better. That is one of thereasons why I will have the pleasure, with High
