OP 17 is fast approaching and it is imperativethat all businesses take a more of an active rolein persuading governments to lend greatersupport towards a binding legal framework in Durban. The G8 plus 5 are responsible for more than 60 per cent ofthe world's trade, and the combined influence of the G20 isresponsible for 90 per cent. Therefore, the G8 plus 5 is vitalin the transition of what will become "The New Economy" -created around the necessity to protect the planet from thedevastating effects of climate change. Our children and our children's children will hold usresponsible if we do not act now and deliver.Within this edition of CLIMATE CHANGE The New Economy, some of the greatest minds in the world have assembled -from governments to industry, from NGOs to scientists, toadvise, debate and formulate best practice. Only when allparties sit down and develop a clear framework that engagesall stakeholders can sustainability be achieved.Shortly after the COP16 conference in Cancun it was statedthat "there was enough there for COP 17 to deliver anhistorical event". Therefore, I call upon all parties to rallybehind the UNFCCC in order to make Durban, South Africa,a resounding success. CLIMATE CHANGE The New Economywill be at COP 17 to support our transition to a low-carbonfuture and the International Green Awards for SustainableBusiness Innovation. On behalf of myself and my team, may I also take thisopportunity to wish two great institutions: the OECD and theWWF a happy 50th Anniversary.
