SPORTS AND VENUESOLYMPIC REVIEW47(Artistic Gymnastics, RhythmicGymnastics) Bishan Sports Hall has been the venue for the SingaporeOpen Gymnastics Championships since 2004. (Triathlon) The triathlon venue issituated along the East Coast Park,Singapore's largest and most popularpublic beach and park. The areaoffers a wide range of facilities -food, recreation, entertainment andsports - and has been the locationfor the Osim Singapore Triathlon,which has grown steadily from 500participants in 2002 to 3,800participants in 2007. Participants willswim in the open sea, then switch tothe scenic and tropical green settingof the East Coast Park road for thecycle and run segments. (Boxing, Fencing, Handball, Judo,Taekwondo, Wrestling) Located in theheart of Singapore's business district,the International Convention Centre(ICC) is also conveniently located nearboth the IOC Family Hotel and IF Hotel.One of the largest multi-purposeconvention and exhibition facilities inthe centre of the city, the ICC hashosted some of the world's biggestmeetings, exhibitions and conventions,including the International MonetaryFund World Bank Congress in 2006. (Archery) Currently home toSingapore's cricketers, Kallang Field is also used for softball. Spanning anarea of more than 50,000m2, theKallang Field was the venue for theprestigious Singer Cup crickettournament in 1996, involving teamsfrom India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. (Tennis) The Kallang Tennis Centre is a popular venue for tennisprogrammes and competitions,including hosting the local nationalschools' tennis competitions. It is alsothe training venue for the nationalteam and national youth teams and is equipped with 14 courts. (Sailing) Sitting on 2.4 hectares of land, the National Sailing Centre islocated at the south-eastern tip ofSingapore along the East Coast Park.An ideal location for sailingcompetitions, the National SailingCentre's strategic position makes fulluse of the south-west and north-eastwinds for year-round sailing. (Equestrian) Set on three hectares oflush greenery, the new riding schoolin the Singapore Turf Club boasts twoworld-class riding arenas: a 50-metreby 100-metre open arena and a 50-metre by 80-metre sheltered arena.(Diving) The Toa Payoh SwimmingComplex operates a public swimmingpool and another pool usedextensively for elite training, waterpolo, synchronised swimming anddiving. In March 2006, this swimmingcomplex hosted the synchronisedswimming event during the AsianSwimming Championships.(Cycling, Opening and ClosingCeremonies) The Float@Marina Bayis located on the waters of the MarinaReservoir in front of the IOC FamilyHotel. It was built in 2007 to providean innovative and alternative venuefor major events including sport,concerts and cultural performances.The first major event held at theFloat@Marina Bay was the 2007National Day Parade.
