Neil Munro, Head of Engineering, added, ' VWS Westgarth uses PDMS as standard for 3D modelling on upstream oil & gas projects. PDMS has so far been utilised on several major projects and AVEVA Global has successfully been used together with PDMS to allow the sharing of information between our offices in Glasgow and Gloucester.' ' We can use PDMS from the start of a project, when the first layout of a new plant is created, all the way through to execution. This provides us with an efficient workflow and contributes to our success,' says Pascal Juif. ' The PDMS model makes it easy for the client to visualise the plant, and gives a good commercial view of the project.' Improved quality of design ' With the 3D tool including the automatic clash- detection functions of PDMS, any design inaccuracy can now be eliminated before production begins, saving both our clients and us time and money,' explains Hakim Bouhali. ' PDMS allows faster design and review and it is possible to derive layout drawings, lists and reports of piping, instrumentation, isometrics, spooling, welding information and Material Take Offs ( MTOs) direct from the 3D PDMS model. ' Every water treatment project is unique, but several of the components are identical and can be used each time we design a new plant. To further reduce site modifications, our use of PDMS has developed since implementation. We want to increase the level of detail in the 3D PDMS model. We therefore put a lot of effort into collecting as much information as possible about the project before we start the modelling work. Overall, it is more efficient to do this than to have to resolve issues and design modifications at the construction site. The use of PDMS within VWS has grown considerably from the initial core of users, and it is now used around the world, for example, at VWS's business units in Korea, Singapore, Beijing, etc.,' concludes Hakim Bouhali. Yesterday's data - redimensioned for today's vessel Marketing Communications AVEVA Asia Pacific A marine asset, whether a commercial ship, naval vessel or offshore platform, usually has a long lifetime, spanning decades. This asset may very well outlive the system creating the digital data upon which it is built, or to which it is attributed. As the asset goes through cycles of maintenance and upgrades, it is inevitable that numerous information systems and applications will be retired and replaced with newer, more functional ones.
