Did you know...? An important Owner Operator- focused development within AVEVA Instrumentation is the new facility to convert instrumentation data from less intelligent, but nonetheless widespread, third- party formats. This is becoming an increasingly significant consideration for Owner Operators, as they seek to protect their existing investment in as- designed and as-built data. An interesting development in our industry is the way in which the relationships between Owner Operators and EPCs are changing. Both parties understand the importance of quality engineering information, and they are starting to collaborate much earlier and more regularly, rather than simply at the traditional point of handover. This, in turn, is giving Owner Operators more scope to use technologies traditionally only used by EPCs, creating an opportunity for both parties to use common solutions - a process that we have clearly seen happening with a number of our customers. It is becoming ever more important that we serve the needs of both communities. Supporting closer relationships between Owner Operators and EPCs As part of this evolution towards more fluid movement of information, technology has to adapt to comply with established information standards and multiple human languages. This is precisely what AVEVA Instrumentation now delivers: it supports KKS and ECS, the tagging standards for the power industry, and it also has foreign language capability, including multi- byte languages ( Korean, Chinese, Japanese), Russian, French and Spanish, amongst others. Uniquely, this isn't just a translated interface: foreign language content ( deliverables and documents) is supported, too - indispensable in many of today's multi- site, international projects. Type your query in Chinese, and the deliverables that it finds are prioritised to show Chinese content first - another way of ensuring that users receive the information that is most relevant to them, and in which they are likely to find the most helpful answers. Cost saving, scheduling and quality continue, as ever, to dominate the EPC and OO landscape, and the industry is now placing increasing focus on Fieldbus as a way of improving results in these areas. In AVEVA Instrumentation, all outputs from Fieldbus are automatically generated; from simple and efficient block wiring input, detailed connection diagrams are created for the devices themselves or the complete segment, with outputs varying from CAD to PDF and XPS ( Microsoft's open standard document format), and others. This saves time and effort and, therefore, money. Finally, AVEVA Instrumentation has further broadened its compatibility by incorporating a new document management interface, a new connector to the AVEVA NET solution, and integration with the AVEVA schematic model. The document management interface works with industry-standard document management applications and is being used successfully by some of the major industry players within the AVEVA customer base. AVEVA PIPELINE | 2010 Issue 2 | Page 5 According to a 2010 industry guide published by Hydrocarbon Processing magazine. . Instrumentation is the biggest spenditem in any plant. . Capital expenditure on buying new instruments in 2010 was$ 5bn. . Maintenance and operations costs for these instruments in 2010 were $ 4.9bn. Also. . Feedback from customers in the plant and shipbuilding industries confirms that AVEVA Instrumentation can help achieve design and material savings of 30% or more. . It uses industry- standard applicationsincluding Microsoft SQL Server, Access and Excel and can be used in projects and operations of all sizes - stand- alone or integrated. . Unlike other systems, AVEVA Instrumentation has simple drag- and- drop functionality, rather than complex, forms- driven interfaces. This saves massive amounts of operator time. . AVEVA Instrumentation requires minimal system administration, with no need for database- checking utilities. . AVEVA Instrumentation is built around the concept of change management, ensuring that engineers and designers know the full impact a change is going to have on the project deliverables. . AVEVA Instrumentation continues to attract significant numbers of new customers every month, many of whom have migrated from other instrumentation systems. Instruments ' in the field' - together, AVEVA Instrumentation and AVEVA NET ensure that all the information connected to these instruments is gathered together and made accessible.

AVEVA Instrumentation - the hard economic facts AVEVA Instrumentation's simple user interface and intuitive workflow give time back to the engineer, promoting significant savings and, therefore, delivering hard economic benefit. Consequently, we are seeing AVEVA Instrumentation being enthusiastically adopted across our customers' sectors. Under difficult economic conditions, the ability to manage down costs is often the defining factor in whether a business survives or perishes. We have even worked with our customers to develop an electronic business value calculator that helps to set out some potential savings/ ROI scenarios for your business - do ask your AVEVA contact to share this compelling tool with you. Open and free exchange of information Free and open information exchange is at the heart of our product strategy. We have gone one step further by developing, amongst other improvements, an enhanced P& ID interface. We can now exchange, and add value to, information from P& ID variants such as AVEVA Diagrams or AVEVA P& ID, as well as from third- party suppliers. Moreover, AVEVA Instrumentation is fully compatible with AVEVA NET, the Information Management solution that underpins much of AVEVA's wider Owner Operator and EPC offerings. The tight coupling between AVEVA Instrumentation and AVEVA NET means that information can be exchanged between AVEVA Instrumentation and other systems, whether third- party, home- grown or, indeed, from AVEVA itself. Checking and linking of the data can then occur, making potential dependencies visible to both managers and frontline users, thus preventing error and duplication of effort. For example, a designer using AVEVA Instrumentation can create an instrument and publish the design data for that instrument to AVEVA NET. This then presents the designer with related P& IDs and documentation, together with status information, to provide additional context and enable the designer to make more informed design decisions. This, in turn, brings immediate benefits in the form of a more efficient design process and better design decision making, as well as less expensive rework. In the same way, new integration features, like the ability to click on an instrument on the P& ID to give instant access to a plant items datasheet, provide the engineer with timely and detailed information. What does success look like? AVEVA's ability to deliver on promises finds solid expression through these latest improvements to AVEVA Instrumentation, and feedback from the market has been extremely encouraging. AVEVA Instrumentation is setting a new standard for engineering technologies. Its growing presence across many of our customers' implementations is proof, that our customers' needs are at the very heart of our delivery. As a wise man once said, ' Success is a journey, not a destination.' We call this Continual Progression. ' AVEVA's ability to deliver on promises finds solid expression through these latest improvements to AVEVA Instrumentation, and feedback from the market has been extremely encouraging. AVEVA Instrumentation is setting a new standard for engineering technologies...' Page 6| AVEVA PIPELINE | 2010 Issue 2 The latest version of AVEVA Instrumentation also includes: . An interface to the AVEVA Schematic Model, to synchronise Instrument and Loop data . P& ID Interface improvements to handle attribute mapping between the products, including user-defined attributes . Additional security options requested by customers . Grid editing database row locks with undo and redo . An enhanced wiring diagram to include field instrument, field JB and Control Cabinet marshalling on a single page . among others! Further enhancements Above: There are many kilometres of wiring in a plant - AVEVA Instrumentation helps users understand it, as well as making new wiring processes more efficient.
