Lighting was an important element that the women shopped for, resulting in unique fixtures, sconces and ceiling fans "that remind me of kayak paddles," Celine says. "Kimberlee calls lighting 'the jewelry of your home.'"Among several unusual features in the house is a secret room behind a bookshelf in the lower level that is Drew's favorite place. "I like to play in there," the 11 year old said.Celine commissioned artist Laura McCarragher of Things With Wings to create an artsy wood-framed mirror for the kids' bathroom, with their names and positive phrases hand-painted around the border. ? roomJUNE 2012 21Mom and Dad drift off comfortably amid soft texture and color, while visions of lake adventures dance in their heads.

"We designed the dock so you don't have to step from the canoe into water. I just get in and Andy pushes me out. It's perfect," Celine said.Speaking of preferences, Emma, 14, says her favorite thing about the lake house isn't the house, but the view. "It makes me feel like I'm a part of nature, and that's pretty neat," she said. nWe wanted to bring the outdoors "inside, and we wanted to feel like the house fits in the landscape."landscape."- Celine Hartwig
