ON TEST 2011UKCARP MAGAZINE 51 SEPTEMBER 6TH 2011A nice double on the Razor X.Three test curves RRP £199.99A LOT of effort has gone into the design and production of this very modern and stylish range of rods, and JRC has clearly listened to its consultants. There are three 12ft models with test curves of 2.75lb, 3lb and 3.25lb, so you're sure to find something here to suit your needs. The first thing you notice about the rods is their minimalist looks and the super-slim blanks, complemented by SiC rings, a carbon line clip, a 20mm reel seat and a full length shrink handle. For my test fishing session I used the 2.75lb tc versions, which are ideal for most carpers and really look the part out on the rests. The blanks have very forgiving tips for easy casting, but there is plenty of poke if you bend them through to the butt. I was impressed to the point where I deliberately overloaded the rods to see if there has been any trade-off between slimness and strength - rest assured, there hasn't. You can tell the blank is made from high quality 40T Japanese carbon, and the recovery speed is quick and crisp, making it a pleasure to use.My day out was rounded off nicely by a brace of feisty double-figure commons that put a pleasant curve in the rods to make the fight fun, but I knew there was plenty in reserve should I need it. I would guess that the 3.25lb tc version is more than up to chucking a lead to the horizon. At £200 apiece these rods aren't cheap, but you are getting a well made product that is worth every penny and is nice to own and use. They are well worth a look, and who knows? The Razor X brand may tick all the right boxes and cut it for you.
