AUTUMN 2009I sea& iI9 Contributors Simon de Burton Simon de Burton writes about lux-ury wristwatches for publications around the world, including the Financial Times, Vanity Fair On Time, GQ and the leading UK spe-cialist magazine QP. For sea& i's Time & Tide supplement, Simon highlights his top watches from the latest collections inspired by nautical themes. Tim Thomas In his twin careers as a professional yachtsman and journalist, Tim Thomas - currently deputy editor of Boat International magazine - has recorded over 100,000 sea miles in all sorts of craft, from pocket racers to 60m ( 197') superyachts. For this issue of sea& i, Thomas travelled to the Canary Islands to catch up with the highly innovative and technologically advanced 58m ( 190') ketch Ethereal, recently launched by the Royal Huisman yard in Holland. Merijn de Waard De Waard's passion for yachts developed at an early age when he sailed the Dutch lakes on a 10m ( 32.8') sailing boat. As soon as he entered the world of superyachts, he knew his future lay in this industry. His passion has inspired him to develop an encyclopaedic knowledge of the industry worldwide. In 2007 he founded SuperYachtTimes. com, the world's leading online superyacht magazine. De Waard travels the world to keep abreast of the latest concepts, launches and news from the world of yachting. As part of a regular column, De Waard will be looking at the latest developments at yards around the world. In this, his first piece for sea& i, he travelled to the major Dutch shipyards to report on their current projects and plans. Giles Chapman A London- based writer specialising in the design world, Chapman has won awards for his magazine journalism, books and research projects. He regularly contributes to daily newspapers and has authored ( or co- authored) more than 15 books, including one in collaboration with London's Royal College Of Art. Chapman visited Bannenberg & Rowell at their design studios in London for an insight into their experience in the interior design of the recently launched 41m ( 135') Natori.
