The Index reviews 2008, which, despite the economic climate of the second half of the year, proved to be an excellent year for the yachting industry, with an unparalleled level of sales and charter activity. Now the question on everybody's lips is " what will 2009 bring?" Research has already begun for the third edition of the Index, out in 2010, to answer just that. New to the team CNI is delighted to announce that Bob O'Brien has joined the CNI Palm Beach sales team. O'Brien has been around yachts all his life as he grew up racing sailboats in New Jersey, and continued racing throughout his college days. O'Brien returned to yachting after a brief stint on Wall Street, and opened O'Brien Yacht Sales Inc in 1987 in Delray, USA. His business took him to Palm Beach and he spent ten years working next to CNI's Palm Beach office, of which he is now a valuable team member. Young Designer of the Year Award As sponsors of the Young Designer of the Year Award at the World Superyacht Awards, CNI was delighted to award Maila Speitkamp for her project Draconis. Her catamaran design was understated and original, and presented in accomplished style with a scale model of the yacht. The annual competition recognises the achievement of an outstanding young designer and is open to anyone who is studying for a qualification in a subject related to yacht design.
