12Isea& iIAUTUMN 2009 ST BARTH'S BUCKET T he 52m ( 170' 6) Meteor from Royal Huisman was the winner of the 2009 St Barth's Bucket, which was held between the 26 to 29 March. This gaff- rigged schooner proved to be a tremendous performer in the stiff 15 to 20 knot breeze among this 35- yacht fleet. On the first day of racing, Captain Dean Maggio handed the helm to world- renowned musician Jimmy Buffett, who drove most of the first weather leg. Meteor got the gun and finished first on opening day and went on to win overall. CNI's Jeff Beneville trimmed the huge mainsail for the first two days of racing, with Wayne Huizenga Jr, owner of Rybovich Shipyard, and Colin Kiley of Global BSI rigging, making sure each tack and gybe went off without a hitch. Fellow New York Yacht Club member Sam Byrne did a fantastic job with mainsail trim on the third and final day in the event's most exciting race. Voiles d'Antibes - Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge The 14th edition of the Voiles d'Antibes, which opened the Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge between the 3 to 7 June 2009, was held in its new location, the Bastion Saint Jaume, under the shade of the ramparts of the old city of Antibes. The challenge is organised at the beginning of the season, and is followed by coastal regattas and off-shore races in Italy and France. A selection of the most impressive Vintage Yachts ( built before 1950), Classics ( built before 1976), Spirit of Tradition Yachts and Twelve Metres ( which competed in the America's Cup from 1958 to 1987) were invited to compete. As in previous years, CNI supported the event by awarding the Trophée d'Elegance to the most deserving vessel, Amadour. The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta Friends old and new gathered for a week of racing for the second Boat International Regatta, now known as the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta. From the 10 to 13 June, 18 of the world's finest sailing superyachts came together for a week of racing off Sardinia's glamorous Costa Smerelda. After four days of racing in near perfect conditions, the 32m ( 105') Gliss, took the Silver Jubilee Cup, seven points ahead of My Song, and eight points ahead of CNI Central Hamilton II. The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2010 takes place from 8 to 12 June in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. Superyacht Cup Palma The Superyacht Cup in Palma, held between the 24 to 27 June, saw three spectacular days of racing for the 18- strong fleet in the Bay of Palma. There were some great close finishes, and in race three 15 yachts finished within 20 minutes of each other, eight of them just three- and- a- half minutes apart. The winner was the 32m ( 105') Royal Huisman- built sloop, Gliss ( right), followed closely by Perini Navi's Antara, and the 28.6m ( 93' 8) Wally Open Season. CNI was delighted to be a Gold Sponsor of the event, with entertainment at the CNI VIP Lounge.
