70Isea& iIAUTUMN 2009 " W hat we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal." Albert Pine Only Watch is a charity auction which is held every two years at the Monaco Yacht Show under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II. This year's auction will be held at 6pm on the 24 September. All the proceeds of the sale go to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Luc Pettavino, President Association Monegasque Contre les Myopathies / Managing Director Monaco Yacht Show, explains: " Only Watch is an exceptional charity auction. It's also a unique occasion for a Chief of State, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Watch Manufacturers, an Auction House, Collectors, Lovers of Beauty, Press and Media... women and men from different hori-zons to take part into a project to protect and extend human life; and more precisely, to notably contribute to therapeutic treat-ments of a still incurable disease that affects tens of thousands of children across the world. Part of the child we all were still lives in us. And our duty as adults is to not forget about him or her by offering another child, thanks to these numerous talented contributions, the possibility to project himself into the future and grow. One of the challenges of the 21st century is to repair genes responsible for serious illnesses like DMD. Only Watch 05 and 07 provided exceptional fund- raising opportunities (? 1.9 million and ? 2.7 million respectively) giving Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies the extraordinary privilege to significantly support and coordinate various international research teams working on this pathology. The link between luxury watches, yachting, and the Monaco Yacht Show is a natural one. We speak the same language: unique products, exclusivity, search for excellence, rare know how, precision in the making, tradition and innovation... and I have rarely seen a yacht user or a yacht owner without exceptional watches at their wrists." " This edition has been a pleasant surprise for all of us," says Osvaldo Patrizzi of Patrizzi & Co. " On the one hand, we find pres-tigious manufacturers that are evolving and yet working in the purest of tradition, producing excellent instruments of the high-est technologies and design, guided by reputations that have been established from decades of impeccable products. On the other hand, we find a new generation of entrepreneurs whose idea of the evolution of classic horology no longer regards the watch as a practical or precious object, but rather, imagining the watch as an artistic, miniature masterpiece - a mechanical sculpture to be worn. There is splendid Kinetic Art that searches for a new clientele among the great modern art lovers of the world, where ' art in motion' is their passion. For me, this has been a true revelation and not only is a pleasure but an honour." The 2009 creations are truly special and we hope that the money collected on September 24th will allow the Monaco Association Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to finance another year of work of the 15 researchers and clinicians. www. patrizziauction. com Only Watch Thirty four of the world's leading watch brands have come together, each donating a unique watch - the first in their series - to be sold at the Monaco Yacht Show ?
