Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was elected President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) during its 18th General Assembly in Moscow in April.A total of 203 National Olympic Committees attended the General Assembly. "This is a big responsibility for me, and there are many things we should do together after the success of our first President, Mr In March, a number of Olympians, including Olympic swimming champion Ai Shibata, were joined by world-famous Pokémon character Pikachu at an "Olympic Day Festa" organised by the Japanese NOC for children in Kurihara, which was affected by the earthquake in March 2011. This was one of a number of NOC events that will take place in 2012 and 2013 which are jointly sponsored by the IOC and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) "Tsubasa" support project. The African Youth Games The Indonesian Olympic Committee celebrated its 60th anniversary in March at a function held in Senayan, Jakarta. The NOC President, Rita Subowo, opened the celebrations with a short speech outlining the history of the organisation. Indonesia first participated in the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952, when three Indonesian athletes took part. They can bring out the best of humanity and all that we can achieve when we strive to be the best at something. "The new British Olympic Museum is the place where these stories of human triumph and sacrifice will come to life and it will become part of the lasting legacy that London 2012 will leave the UK for generations to come." The Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) opened an Artistic Gymnastics Training Centre in Rio de Janeiro in April. Based on models used in other countries, the facilities boast approximately 100 state-of-the-art pieces of equipment, which place them among the best in the world for gymnastics. "I am proud to be opening a training centre of such a high quality as this," said Carlos Arthur Nuzman, BOC President. "All the efforts of the Brazilian Olympic Committee go towards meeting the needs of the Brazilian athletes in the best way possible.
