OLYMPIC REVIEW 25IOC ATHLETES' COMMISSION

and the results will be announced on 9 August in the London Olympic Village.Voting offices will be set up in the Olympic Village, the Olympic Sailing Village and the Olympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint Village, as well as in the cities hosting the football competitions. After approval by the IOC Session, the four elected athletes will become IOC members for an eight-year term of office. The Commission, which meets one to two times per year, serves as a consultative body and is the link between active athletes and the IOC. It is composed of 12 athletes elected for eight years by the athletes participating in the Olympic Games, and of up to seven athletes appointed by the IOC President, to ensure a balance between regions, gender and sports. There are four summer sports athletes elected by their peers at each Games of the Olympiad and two winter sports athletes elected by their peers at each Olympic Winter Games. In addition, a representative of the World Olympians Association (WOA) and a representative of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) are ex-officio members. ?FRANK FREDERICKSOutgoing Chairman Frank Fredericks was first elected to the IOC Athletes' Commission in 2004, and then elected as chairman of the Commission and a member of the IOC Executive Board in 2008. The Namibian sprinter won four Olympic silver medals (100m and 200m) in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 and was a finalist in the 200m in Athens in 2004. As Chairman, he represented the Commission during the coordination of the London 2012 Games. He was also part of the Coordination Commission for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore in 2010 and the first Winter YOG in Innsbruck earlier in 2012.WHAT THE IOC ATHLETES' COMMISSION DOES .
