The 2012 candidates have each pledged to commit to the role of representing all athletes of the Olympic Movement. Only National Olympic Committees (NOCs) with an athletes' commission were eligible to put forward a candidate for the 2012 election. The candidates themselves must have taken part in the Beijing 2008 Games or be taking part in the London 2012 Games.
