That means that they want to have access to flows of energy that aren't likely to be interrupted and to have contingency plans at the ready if something does go wrong. That's not that easy: around 70% of the world's conventional proved oil reserves are located in seven countries - Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Russia. And half of the world's conventional natural gas is in just three nations - Russia, Iran and Qatar.
