In Tulare, the community theatergroup The Encore Theater puts oncomedies, musicals and thrillers. TheBarn Theater in Porterville — the oldestcommunity theater group in TulareCounty — also puts on several plays ayear. MusicTulare County has several venues thathost live music, including the VisaliaConvention Center, the new McDer- mont Field House in Lindsay and theVisalia Fox Theatre. Two music festivals — June's Jugfest, amusic festival featuring bluegrass, bluesand country music, and September'sVisalia All- Music Festival, dubbed VAMby its promoters — are also on the cal- endar for this year. The Tulare County Fair, held in mid- September, has also attracted big- namedentertainers such as comedian Bill Cos- by, rock legends Jethro Tull and countrysinger Reba McEntire. The Tulare County Symphony plays amonthly concert September through thespring, bringing a variety of classicalmusic to Visalia and the county area. Over the years, Visalia has welcomedbig- name acts at the Visalia ConventionCenter such as Julio Iglesias, Bob Dylanand comedian Gallagher. Visalia also draws top- name Christianrock bands, including the Newsboys andThird Day. The newly opened 210 in Visalia alsohosts live music. In its café, kids andadults can hang out and surf the Internetduring the day, and at night teenscan listen to all- ages shows andbuy CDs from their favorite local artists. A nonprofit group called Sound ' N'Vision run by promoter Aaron Gomeshas brought hundreds of shows toplaces such as Howie and Son's PizzaParlor on Mooney Boulevard, The Cel- lar Door on Main Street and the VisaliaFox. The Orange Blossom Junction inExeter has hosted several world- classtalents since it opened four years ago. Owner Doug Long, whose passion isguitarists, said his goal is to make hisshowroom a small, intimate living- roomlike atmosphere where you can enjoy ameal and watch world- class guitarists. He has brought in such talent as DaveMason from Traffic and FleetwoodMac, Rick Derringer and Johnny Win- ters. Movies Regal Entertainment Group, thelargest movie exhibitor in the country, provides mainstream, commercialmovies for its 22 screens in Visalia. Thechain also schedules the popular VisaliaIndependent Film Series, which bringsthe best in independent and foreignfilms to Visalia. In Tulare, Galaxy Theatres runs a 10- screen movie theater that features main- stream, commercial films. Both schedules run weekly in theChoices entertainment guide.
