Second Sight allows teachers and others to create content that works with traditional printed materials to trigger audio, video and interactive 3D on the PSP. The system consists of an authoring tool for the PC and playback tool for the PSP. ConnectED will also be offering new pricing for schools and other educational establishments buying in bulk, making it more affordable than ever to deploy PSP for education. Making its debut at the BETT, GCSEPod ( stand W38) will showcase its range of GCSE learning and revision podcasts. Aimed at Years 9, 10 and 11, the range now covers eight GCSE subjects in more than 300 podcasts. The service allows any student with a suitable mobile phone, MP3 player or other device to create their own virtual learning environment. Also new is a schools subscription service that lets education establishments create podcast revision libraries that can be loaned to students just like library books. Studywiz ( stand D110) will launch a major upgrade to its Studywiz Mobile system. Studywiz Mobile connects students to the full Studywiz virtual learning environment via mobile phones to take tests, check calendars and timetables, download work files and join in class discussion groups. The new upgrade adds support for the newest generation of mobiles using Microsoft Windows and Google Android operating systems, greatly expanding the number of devices able to use the service. Polyvision ( stand J25) brings the power of the interactive whiteboard to a mobile format with the launch of the eno mini. Each mini slate works in whiteboard fashion, but is smaller than an A4 magazine. The system supports the use of three devices in the classroom at any time - either three mini slates, or one eno whiteboard and two slates. New@ BETT SHORTS Promising to simplify and improve communications between schools and parents, Call- Systems Technology ( stand E128) will launch ParentCall. An online, web- based solution, ParentCall delivers messages by email, text to mobile, or text- to- voice on landlines, and allows parents to reply via email or text. Also building parental engagement, Synetrix ( stand K10) will launch OpenHIVE, an online service that presents timetable, attendance, behaviour and attainment information that parents can access from anywhere.
