187As a business that cares about people, Simon Jersey and the wider Kwintet Group operate to the highest possible standards regarding human rights and welfare. We simply believe that it is wrong to use exploitative or otherwise harmful labour at any part of our supply chain. We do not believe that our success should come at the expense of someone else.As such, Simon Jersey and every other part of the Kwintet Group operate to the following standards, and demand that foreign suppliers do the same. It is a condition of working with Kwintet that the following standards are upheld, and every supplier must provide unrestricted access to their facilities for inspectors to monitor these key obligations. No employment discrimination We do not believe in discrimination of any kind in the workplace. Kwintet and all its suppliers and affiliates must guarantee that recruitment, wage policies, access to training programmes and all other aspects of the employment relationship are entirely free from all forms of discrimination on the grounds of race, sex, colour, religion, political affiliation, social background, union membership, disability or any other form of prejudice that innately favours one human being over another, in keeping with ILO Coventions 100 and 111. No cheap labourWe do not believe that any worker in the Kwintet supply chain should receive a level of compensation that does not meet the basic needs of their family, in keeping with ILO Coventions 26 and 131. We demand that all Kwintet Suppliers ensure that wages and benefits at least meet legal or industry standards, and that deductions are not used as a way to lower this minimum rate. There must also be complete transparency over wage and pay cycle specifications. No excessive hoursWe do not believe that any worker should be made to work excessive hours to meet the demands of the Kwintet supply chain. All suppliers are expected to adhere to national and industry standards for working hours, and in any case not regularly exceed a 48 hour working week with one day of mandatory rest. Overtime must be optional, not exceed 12 hours per week and always be compensated at a premium rate, in keeping with ILO Convention 1. No child labourWe do not believe that child labour should ever be exploited for profit. All Kwintet suppliers are expected to entirely avoid child labour as defined by local laws, and accept a duty of care to younger people working in their facilities. Young people must have access to education and training opportunities that do not takethe form of 'apprenticeships' where there is no intention to impart skills. No poor working conditionsWe do not believe that anyone should have to work in substandard or dangerous conditions, or indeed be subjected to bonded labour. Kwintet demands that all suppliers follow best occupational health and safety practises, taking note of recognised industry specific hazards related to garment production. All forms of physical, emotional and sexual abuse or harassment are strictly prohibited under any cirumstance. To learn more about the Kwintet Group's continuing commitment to ethical trading, please visit the Corporate Social Responsibility hub at kwintet.com.Kwintet is proud to be a member of SEDEX, or the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, which is a membership organisation for businesses committed to constantly improving the ethical performance of their supply chain. The Fair Wear Foundation is a multi-stakeholder initiative based in the Netherlands that Simon Jersey, as part of Kwintet, is a member.
