Its CDC feathers cling to the surface of the water, battling against the current. I am poised and ready, as it appears as appetising as the hatch surrounding me. Yet nothing.Expecting the dark rapids to consume my fly, the surface is broken by a huge flash of erupting gold. As I lift into my rod the fish is already hooked, arcing upstream my rod mirrors the bolting aggressor. Ferocious headshakes pump adrenaline through my hands as I palm the pressure on the reel, yet it continues to strip line. I can do nothing. Holding strong in the current, heavy concern washes over me as my fine tippet literally sings under the tension.04 |
