The concept is to create a vibrantbusiness and lifestyle destination aroundthe exhibition centre which is forresidents and visitors alike. The firstthree towers within Capital Centre, twohotels and a Grand-A office address, willopen later this year.How do ADNEC's plans stand with regardto creating a global network of venues,that already includes Excel London and AlAin? How will this change your marketingapproach? Will the company expandfurther?ADNEC's goal is to provide the globalevents industry with a network of venueswhich offer world class service andconsistency of operations. Excel London and Al Ain joined the groupin May 2008, since then we havesignificantly enhanced all three of our eventvenues, adding more than 30,000sqm ofevent space at Excel and launchingLondon's first International ConventionCentre; adding Abu Dhabi Hall and20,000sqm of waterfront event space atADNEC, and expanding the Al AinConvention Centre with the new eventfacilities due to open later this year.Of course, we are always on the lookoutfor opportunities which will strengthen thegroup and benefit Abu Dhabi.D-REEM robot at your serviceAbu Dhabi National ExhibitionsCompany (ADNEC) has begun trials ofa robot which can assist visitors at itsADNEC centre. The robot information assistant andstand guide is a pilot project and took itsmechanical bow at the recentInternational Defence Exhibition andConference (IDEX 2011). ADNEC saysthe prototype enhances ADNEC'scredentials as an innovator within theglobal live events industry.The robot, 2011-REEM to give himhis correct title, has been greeting andguiding visitors and ADNEC believes itis the first live events venue to trialsuch an initiative.ADNEC MD His Excellency Ali SaeedBin Harmal Al Dhaheri, said he was"delighted" to be able to trial REEMduring IDEX 2011. REEM is produced by Abu Dhabi-based PAL Robotics (PAL Group).1.65m in height, with a mobile basethat enables the robot to move at5km/hour, the advanced capabilities ofREEM include a motorised head withvision, face tracking and recognitionfunctions. The robot contains sensorsand a multimedia touchscreen thatcan offer information in variousformats, as well as the ability to speakto a helpdesk attendant via videoconference.ADNEC's humanoid robot developed by PAL Robotics features facerecognition and navigation systems.
