n March 18, 2011, Community Allies Serving Together, a fundraising partnership between Hockanum Valley Community Council, Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut, and ECHN's Woodlake at Tolland, held a Roast in honor of Bill McGurk, President and CEO of Rockville Bank, for his retirement. Proceeds from the event raised more than $30,000 to benefit the programs and services of the three organizations. The event was generously hosted at Manchester Community College, where Community Allies Serving Together also presented a $1,500 check to Dr. Gena Glickman, President of Manchester Community College, for the William J. ECHN is very appreciative of the numerous gifts-in-kind we receive each year.Shaker Table DonationPaul Fournier grew up in South Windsor, and his hobby is making reproduction furniture. Paul wanted to donate a hand-made Shaker reproduction library table to the Foundation to be used in an auction at one of our fundraising events to benefit ECHN. He constructed the table from solid American cherry using traditional hand tools. A unique feature of the table is that the table front and both drawer fronts are cut from a single piece of cherry so that the grains closely match. He then finished it with several coats of high quality Danish oil."I made the Shaker-style table to donate to a worthwhile cause that would receive the most benefit," Mr. Fournier stated. "I have several good friends that I respect very much that I asked for advice. They are very involved with ECHN and educated me on the fine work that ECHN does in the area. Donating the table to ECHN became the only option I pursued. All the staff I worked with there were outstanding, and I know the donation will support the area where my wife and I grew up. The best part is that I know that the donation of the table will benefit a larger spectrum of people than I could ever afford to do otherwise. I hope that this type of donation will be appealing to other crafters who will contact the ECHN Foundation about donating their crafts for event auctions. I would absolutely recommend this exceptional cause and organization."The table was highlighted in the live auction at Salute! An Evening of Fine Wines & Gourmet Cuisine and brought in $1,400 to benefit the Women's Center for Wellness. ECHN is very grateful to Mr. Fournier for his generous and beautiful donation.22860.647.4753
